Orlando City announced Monday that it has secured the rights to build a new arena on the city’s west side.
The move comes at a critical time for the franchise, whose players are expected to depart for the NFL in 2019 and the club’s ownership group is seeking a new owner.
The team will use its new stadium for its home games, including a home opener against the New York Red Bulls in 2017.
The announcement comes after the team secured a deal for a 30-year lease at the old Orlando Citrus Bowl in 2019.
The deal includes a $150 million donation from Citrus owner George Little to the new facility.
The Orlando City stadium opened to the public in April.
