The Shining Hotel in La, Mexico, has been chosen by the Lonely Planet Guides as the most romantic and beautiful hotel on the planet.
The award-winning hotel is the subject of a series of films by the renowned director Alejandro Jodorowsky, and featured in the 2014 film The Shining.
In its 2016 edition, Lonely Planet gave La a spot on its list of the 50 Best Places to Visit in Mexico, and named it as the World’s Best Hotel in a special report.
The hotel was first opened by Mexican businessman and philanthropist Juan Carlos Gómez in 1973 and was the subject for a number of Hollywood movies including The Magnificent Seven, The Shining, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
In 2012, Jodorowski’s final film, The Shape of Water, earned the hotel the title of Best New Romantic Hotel in the World.
